You’ve done the most difficult work. You’ve named the trauma in therapy. You understand now where it came from.
And yet, you still feel your shoulders climb toward your ears in loud spaces.
Your chest still tightens as if a hand has made a fist inside you before having a hard conversation.
Your insight helps, but it doesn’t appear to undo it, because trauma doesn’t live only in thoughts. It lives in your body.
Breathwork is often the missing piece for clients I treat here in Orange County, who feel stuck despite years of talk therapy.
What Does Somatic Breathwork Do?
Somatic breathwork is intentional, connected breathing that works directly with your nervous system. The part of you that decides, often without your permission, whether you feel safe or under threat. When something intensely distressing happens, your body can store that fight-or-flight charge in your muscles, breath, and posture.
Talking about a stressful or traumatic event doesn’t always release it. Breath can.
I practice breathwork somatic therapy through the lens of the Biodynamic Breathwork & Trauma Release system. A system that is a body-based method built on six elements:
Breath
Movement
Sound
Touch
Emotional expression
Meditation
Rather than analyzing your story, we work with what your body is already holding.
Deep, connected breathing activates your vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is the main highway between your brain and organs and can shift you out of survival mode and into a state where healing becomes possible.
What Are the Benefits of Breathwork You Can Feel?
My clients often notice changes they didn’t expect from ‘just breathing.’ Chronic tension in the jaw, chest, or hips starts to soften. Anxiety that once felt insurmountable and constant begins to have space around it. Old emotional patterns, the ones you understand intellectually but cannot seem to shake, begin loosening their grip.
Breathwork therapy changes your physiology first, not your mind. Your heart rate improves. Your stress hormones settle. Your body learns, session by session, that it’s allowed to fully exhale again.
Breathwork with Care and Compassion
Your tension doesn’t need a label or name, and your story doesn’t have to be dramatic for this to be for you. Maybe you’ve just noticed your body holding its breath more than it should, or tension that doesn’t go away. That’s enough of a reason to begin.
I see clients in person, online, or virtually at my Orange County space, and many people find the presence of another person steadies their nervous system in ways that navigating and learning on your own can’t quite replicate.
Do you feel safest at home? Or simply live too far away to visit me in person? I hold virtual and online sessions too. Both spaces carry the same care and compassion. As your breathwork coach, I’m not here to fix you. I’m here to walk this journey beside you, as your body remembers to exhale in full.
If this calls to you, that could be your body trying to tell you something, and I would be honored to guide your first breath whenever you’re ready to take it.

Do You Still Have Questions About Breathwork?
-
We won’t force it. If breath awareness feels unsafe for you, I’ll guide you to open your eyes, feel your feet on the floor, or simply notice the room instead. You can pause or stop at any point. This work is meant to regulate you, not overwhelm you.
-
Yes, at your own pace. We start slow and stay within what your nervous system can actually handle, no forced intensity, no pressure toward a breakthrough. I'll watch for early signs of shutdown or panic so we can settle before things escalate. If you're in an active mental health crisis, please get support from a licensed provider first.

You let them move through you, without needing to explain or finish the story. I stay present with you while your body processes what it's ready to release. You can shift position, open your eyes, or stop completely, whatever helps you feel in control. I'm here to witness, not to push.
-
Give yourself quiet time before jumping back into your day. Water, rest, gentle movement, or journaling all help your body integrate what came up. If you feel unsettled later, ground yourself: look around the room, feel a solid surface, breathe naturally. Reach out if you need to talk through what surfaced.

No, it doesn't need to be. I see it as a body-based complement to talk therapy, reaching sensations and stored patterns that conversation alone often can't touch. It's not the right fit for every person or every moment, and I'll tell you honestly if that's the case for you.
